Come si dice “parenti” in inglese? Relatives. E parents allora che cosa vuol dire?
«Genitori». E janitor che cosa significa? «Bidello»...
Ora ti è chiara la definizione di false friends, «falsi amici»?
Si tratta di parole inglesi che sembrano avere lo stesso signi?cato in italiano perché hanno lo stesso suono, ma in realtà hanno significato diverso. Illusioni ottiche insomma, o meglio, sonore.
Accompany
Questo è un semifalse friend, perché in certi contesti accompany e accompagnare hanno lo stesso significato ma in altri, bisogna fare attenzione. Se dici: "I accompanied my cousin to the cinema" e vuoi semplicemente dire che sei andato con loro, allora è ok. Se invece intendi dire che hai accompagnato tuo cugino al cinema (cioè lo ha portato lì), allora in inglese è sbagliato, e dovrai dire: "I took my cousin to the cinema". Clear? Great!
Actually
NO What are you doing actually?
(to mean what are you doing now)
(per intendere che cosa stai facendo adesso)
YES Actually, I don’t like pizza very much.

Agenda
