A proposito di musica e di diritti, in questo giorno così speciale, come non ricordare la famosissima canzone di Bob Marley - Get Up Stand Up che fa “Get up, stand up, stand up for your rights!” = “Alzati  e lotta per i tuoi diritti!”.

Qui la parola RIGHT assume il significato di “diritto”, ma quanti altri significati può avere questo termine così gettonato!? Vediamone alcuni insieme!

-          esatto, corretto:

I don’t know the right answer to this question. = Non so la risposta corretta a questa domanda.

- destra

Turn right and you’ll see the theatre right in front of you. = Gira a destra e vedrai il teatro proprio di fronte a te.

...ma ho appena usato un altro right nella frase di esempio!! Eh sì, in quel caso vuol dire “proprio, esattamente”.

-          subito, immediatamente, non appena:

She felt relaxed right after she quit her job! = Si è sentita rilassata non appena ha lasciato il lavoro!

-          nelle domande nel significato di “giusto?” :

You are an English teacher, right? = Sei un’insegnante di inglese, giusto?

-          right per dire “ok, va bene, beh”:

Right, who’s ready to go running? = Beh, chi è pronto per andare a correre?

-          to be right = avere ragione:

You’re right, I have to quit smoking. = Hai ragione, devo smettere di fumare.
